The questions we expect to be asked most often.

Draft. This page is incomplete and is not yet a published policy. Sections marked below require information we do not have yet.

Do cooling towels and evaporative products actually work?

Yes, with an important caveat. Evaporative cooling works by letting water evaporate from a surface, which draws heat away. That process is efficient in dry air and much weaker in humid air. In a dry heatwave a cooling towel makes a real difference; in humid coastal heat the effect is noticeably smaller. We say so on the product pages rather than in the small print.

Is a mini air cooler an air conditioner?

No. An evaporative cooler cools the air passing through it and adds humidity to the room. It does not cool a room the way a refrigerant air conditioner does. It is effective at a desk in dry conditions and much less so in a humid sealed room.

Can I take a battery fan on a flight?

Lithium batteries must travel in hand luggage, never in the hold. Our fans are well under the 100 Wh threshold that requires airline approval, but policies differ by carrier — check yours before you fly.
